Celebrate Independence Day with these gooey, chewy Monster Cookies packed with festive colors and flavors, a perfect sweet treat for family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (browned)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup oats
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup M&M’s or sprinkles (for a patriotic touch)

Instructions

  1. Brown the Butter: Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat, whisking until it turns golden brown and smells nutty—about 5 minutes.
  2. Mix Together Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the browned butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Beat until smooth and creamy.
  3. Add Eggs and Vanilla: Crack eggs one at a time into the bowl, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  4. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined.
  5. Incorporate Oats and Chips: Fold in oats and chocolate chips, and add M&M’s or sprinkles for festivity.
  6. Chill the Dough (Optional): Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes for extra chewiness.
  7. Preheat Your Oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  8. Scoop the Dough: Drop dough balls onto prepared sheets, leaving space between each.
  9. Bake the Cookies: Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden brown and centers look slightly underbaked.
  10. Cool and Enjoy: Let cookies cool on sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For added flavor variations, consider peanut butter or coconut. These cookies can be frozen either as dough or baked.
