Ground Beef and Broccoli

A comforting dish that brings family together with the savory flavors of ground beef and fresh broccoli.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup beef broth or water
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger (optional)
  • Cooked rice or quinoa (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat until shimmering.
  2. Cook the onion until translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Brown the beef, breaking it apart, for about 6-7 minutes.
  4. Add the broccoli and cook for about 3-5 minutes until tender but still crunchy.
  5. Mix the soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), brown sugar, and beef broth, then pour over the beef and broccoli.
  6. Thicken the sauce with cornstarch if desired, and simmer until bubbly.
  7. Finish with sesame oil and ginger, then stir.
  8. Serve over cooked rice or quinoa, garnished with sesame seeds or green onions.

Notes

For a spicy kick, add chili paste or sriracha to the sauce. Substitute proteins as desired for variations!
