Hearty Beef & Mushroom Pie

A comforting Beef & Mushroom Pie that fills your home with tantalizing aromas, perfect for chilly days.

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 8 oz cremini mushrooms, chopped
  • 8 oz button mushrooms, chopped
  • 1 sweet onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme (or 1 tsp dried thyme)
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 package puff pastry (thawed)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat with olive oil for 5-7 minutes; remove excess fat.
  3. Sauté the diced onion and minced garlic until soft, about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Add the chopped mushrooms and cook until tender, about 8-10 minutes.
  5. Season with thyme, salt, and pepper; mix well.
  6. Add beef broth and simmer for 5 minutes, thickening with cornstarch if desired.
  7. Cool the mixture before filling the pie.
  8. Prepare the puff pastry on a floured surface.
  9. Assemble the pie with filling and cover it with pastry, crimping the edges closed.
  10. Brush the top with egg wash and cut slits for steam.
  11. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  12. Cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Try adding different types of mushrooms or cheese for variation. Cool the filling thoroughly to avoid sogginess.
