Easy Tteokbokki

A delightful Korean street food featuring chewy rice cakes in a sweet and spicy sauce, ideal for cozy dinners.

  • 2 tablespoons Gochujang (Korean Red Chili Paste)
  • 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar
  • 3 cloves Garlic (Minced)
  • 1 cup Water
  • Fish Cakes (Optional)
  • Green Onions (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prep your ingredients by slicing the fish cakes if using and mincing the garlic.
  2. Soak the rice cakes in warm water for about 20-30 minutes if they are hard.
  3. Make the sauce mix by combining Gochujang, soy sauce, and sugar in a bowl.
  4. Heat a large pan over medium heat and add water, simmering gently.
  5. Add the garlic and Gochujang mixture to the pan.
  6. Include the soaked rice cakes and gently stir until coated in sauce.
  7. Optional: Toss in fish cakes and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  8. Thicken the sauce by simmering; add water if it becomes too thick.
  9. Final touches with chopped green onions.
  10. Serve warm, optionally family-style or portioned out.

Notes

Serve with a side of pickled radish or a cucumber salad for a perfect balance.
