French Onion Potato Bake

A cozy and comforting dish combining creamy potatoes with the rich sweetness of caramelized onions.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs potatoes (thinly sliced)
  • 2 large onions (caramelized)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup grated cheese (such as Gruyère or cheddar)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Slice your potatoes into uniform slices, about 1/8 inch thick.
  3. Caramelize the onions in a skillet with melted butter over medium heat for about 20-25 minutes.
  4. Prep a 9×13-inch baking dish by greasing it.
  5. Layer the potatoes, salt, pepper, caramelized onions, and cheese in the baking dish.
  6. Pour the heavy cream evenly over the dish.
  7. Bake covered with foil for 30 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes.
  8. Let the bake rest for about 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve hot and consider adding fresh herbs for garnish. Great on its own or with a salad.
