The Ultimate Carnivore Lasagna

This hearty, pasta-free lasagna features layers of cheese and meaty goodness, offering a comforting classic with a modern twist.

  • 1 ½ lbs (680 g) Ground Beef
  • ½ lb (225 g) Ground Italian Sausage (optional)
  • 2 Cups Whole Milk Ricotta Cheese
  • 1 Large Egg
  • 2 Cups Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
  • ½ Cup Grated Parmesan Cheese
  • 810 Slices of Mozzarella Cheese (or Provolone)
  • 2 tbsp Butter or Beef Tallow
  • 1 tsp Sea Salt
  • ½ tsp Black Pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Brown the Meat: In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter or beef tallow and brown the ground beef and Italian sausage, seasoning with salt and pepper.
  3. Prepare the Ricotta Mixture: In a separate bowl, combine the ricotta cheese and the large egg; mix until well blended.
  4. Layer It Up: Spread a thin layer of the meat mixture in a deep baking dish, followed by mozzarella slices, half the ricotta mixture, and repeat.
  5. Top It Off: Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese on top.
  6. Bake: Cover with aluminum foil and bake for about 25 minutes, then remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes.
  7. Let it Rest: Allow the lasagna to rest for 15 minutes before slicing.

Notes

For a smoky flavor, consider using smoked provolone cheese. This dish can also be made ahead of time.
