  • 1 lb (450 g) smoked kielbasa sausage, sliced into ½-inch pieces
  • 1 bag (32 oz / 900 g) frozen diced hash brown potatoes, thawed
  • 1 can (10.5 oz / 295 g) cream of chicken soup (or cream of mushroom)
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (divided)
  • ½ cup chopped green onions
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoons butter (melted)
  • Optional: 1 cup crushed cornflakes or Ritz crackers for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare a 9×13 inch (3-quart) baking dish, greasing it lightly.
  3. Mix the thawed hash browns, sliced kielbasa, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, 1 cup cheddar cheese, green onions, garlic powder, black pepper, and paprika in a large bowl until well-coated.
  4. Transfer the mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  5. Drizzle the melted butter over the top.
  6. Top with crushed cornflakes or Ritz crackers if using.
  7. Bake for 45-55 minutes, until golden brown and bubbly.
  8. Final touch: sprinkle remaining cheese on top and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes.
  9. Let cool for around 10 minutes before serving.
