Swedish Apple Cake

  • 1 ½ cups (190g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup (120ml) milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Whipped cream or vanilla sauce for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare your baking dish by greasing a 9-inch round cake pan with butter.
  3. Mix the dry ingredients: whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  5. Add the eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
  6. Combine wet and dry ingredients, alternating with milk.
  7. Prep the apples by tossing them with sugar and cinnamon.
  8. Assemble the cake by layering batter and apple mixture in your prepared pan.
  9. Bake for 35-40 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  10. Cool the cake in the pan for 10 minutes, then dust with powdered sugar.

Notes

Serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla sauce. The cake can also be enjoyed with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
