Strawberry Chocolate Shell Cake

A decadent chocolate cake filled with fresh strawberries and topped with rich chocolate ganache, perfect for celebrations.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1/4 cup sugar (for macerating strawberries)
  • Chocolate ganache (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Mix the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a mixing bowl.
  3. Combine the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract in a separate bowl.
  4. Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and blend until just combined.
  5. Gradually pour in the boiling water while mixing on low speed.
  6. Divide the batter between the prepared cake pans and bake for 30 to 35 minutes.
  7. Macerate the strawberries with sugar and let them sit for 30 minutes.
  8. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto wire racks.
  9. Prepare the chocolate ganache by heating heavy cream and mixing in chopped chocolate.
  10. Assemble the cake with layers of strawberries and ganache between the cooled cake layers.
  11. Garnish the top with additional strawberries and cocoa powder.

Notes

This cake can be made a day in advance; just assemble with ganache and strawberries before serving.
